WWDC2023 & iOS17

  오는 6월 5일부터 9일까지 캘리포니아에서 개최되는 애플(APPLE)의 WWDC23 ; Apple Worldwide Developers Conference 는 매년 6천명 이상의 전세계 개발자들이 참가하는 애플의 주요 연례행사입니다.  지난 2021년에는 코로나19로 인하여 온라인으로 3천만명 이상이 참가한 것으로 집계되기도 하였습니다. 기조 연설에서 주로 소프트웨어 개발자들을 위한 새로운 소프트웨어와 기술의 발표가 이루어지며, 신제품 발표도 겸하여 이루어지고 있기도 합니다. 그래서, 다가오는 애플의 오는  'WWDC 2023' 행사에서 공개될 최신 아이폰 운영체제 iOS 17에 관심이 쏠리고 있는 상황입니다. 

  IT 매체 맥루미너스는 기존에 나온 정보들을 종합해  iOS 17에 최소 8개의 신기능이 추가될 것이라고 3일(현지시간)보도했습니다. 첫 번째  iOS 17 베타 버전은 WWDC 2023 기조연설 후 애플 개발자 프로그램 회원 대상으로 제공되며, 공개 베타 버전은 오는 7월 베타 소프트웨어 프로그램 회원에게 제공될 가능성이 높습니다.  iOS 17 정식 업데이트는 새 아이폰이 출시되는 오는 9월 출시될 예정입니다. 

그럼 지금부터 어떤 새로운 기능이 나올지 살펴보도록 하겠습니다.

1. 아이메시지 연락처 키 확인
  지난 12월 애플은 '아이메시지 연락처 키 확인'이라는 보안 기능을 미리 선보이며 올해 출시할 것이라고 밝혔는데요.
이 기능은 사용자가 아이폰 내 아이메시지의 대상을 추가로 확인할 수 있는 기능으로 언론인 및 정부 관계자 등 디지털 보안에 취약한 사용자를 위해 개발됐다고 합니다.

2. 제어센터 개편
  과거 아이폰14 프로의 다이내믹 아일랜드 탑재를 정확히 예측했던 소식통(@analyst941)에 따르면, iOS 17에는 확 바뀐 제어센터가 포함될 예정이라고 합니다.  새로워진 제어센터는 더 많은 사용자 지정 기능들이 포함되며, 손전등 밝기도 기존 4단계 설정에서 자유롭게 조절할 수 있게 바뀔 것이라고 알려졌습니다.

 

3. 월렛 앱 개편
  블룸버그 통신은  iOS 17에서 월렛 앱이 개편될 것이라고 밝혔으며 IT팁스터 @analyst941는 월렛 앱의 디자인이 탭과 검색 중심으로 바뀌게 될 것이라고 모형 이미지를 공개하기도 했습니다.

4. 차세대 카플레이
  작년 WWDC 행사에서 애플은 여러 개의 디스플레이와 위젯을 지원하고 계기판, 온도 조절 장치, FM 라디오와 같은 차량 기능을 통합한 차세대 카플레이를 미리 선보인 바 있는데요. 당시 애플은 아우디, 포드, 혼다, 재규어 등 자동차 제조사들과 협력해 차세대 카플레이를 2023년 말에 발표될 것이라 밝혔었습니다. 때문에  iOS 17에서 차세대 카플레이가 출시될 가능성이 높습니다.

​5. 저널링 앱
  지난 달 말 월스트리트저널은 애플이 일상을 기록하는 '저널링 앱'을 개발하고 있다고 보도했었는데요. 이용자가 직접 기록한 내용뿐 아니라, 전화와 문자 정보에 접근해 이용자의 일상생활 정보를 수집합니다. 이 앱의 출시 시점은 아직 불분명하지만  iOS 17와 함께 도입될 가능성이 있습니다.

6. 앱 사이드로딩
  지난 달 블룸버그 통신은 애플이 iOS 17에서 앱 사이드로딩(App sideloading)을 위한 소프트웨어를 점검 중이며, 오는 6월 세계개발자대회(WWDC2023) 행사에서 이를 공유할 것이라고 보도했습니다. 내년 시행될 유럽연합(EU)의 디지털시장법(DMA)은 플랫폼 기업에게 제 3자 앱 마켓을 허용하도록 강제하는데 애플이 이에 발맞춰 정책을 변경할 것으로 전망됩니다. 이를 통해 개발자들은 앱 배포 방식을 애플 앱스토어 뿐 아니라 USB, 인터넷 등 자유롭게 선택할 수 있으며, 외부 결제 시스템을 앱내에서 제공할수도 있게됩니다. 심지어는 기본 음성 비서(voice assistant)도 플랫폼 회사들이 아닌 외부 업체 서비스로 바꿀 수가 있게됩니다. 다만, 초기에는 EU 국가에서만 변경이 이루어질 것으로 예상됩니다.

7. 기분 추적
  블룸버그 통신은 지난 달 말 iOS 17에서 건강 앱에 감정을 추적하고 시력을 관리하기 위한 기능을 추가할 것이라고 보도했는데요. 또, 애플은 아이폰의 건강 앱을 올해 아이패드에도 출시할 계획입니다.

8. 원치 않는 추적 알림 기능 확장
  최근 애플과 구글은 에어태그 등 블루투스 위치 추적 장치가 원하지 않는 위치 추적에 악용되는 것을 막기 위해 기술 개발에 협력했고 밝혔습니다. 두 회사는 이를 위해 제안된 산업 사양을 공동으로 제출했습니다. 이 조치로 인해 애플은 향후 iOS버전을 통해 위치 추적 장치가 승인되지 않은 추적 탐지와 호환되며, iOS 이용자들에게 경고 알림을 제공할 수 있게 됐습니다. 때문에 iOS 17 이후 버전에서 해당 기능이 적용될 가능성이 있습니다.

 

 

Apple's WWDC23; Apple Worldwide Developers Conference, which will be held in California from June 5th to 9th, is Apple's major annual event with more than 6,000 developers from around the world every year. More than 30 million developers participated in the 2021 WWDC, which was held online because of COVID-19. Keynote speeches include presentations of new software and technologies, primarily for software developers, as well as new product announcements. Therefore, attention is being paid to the latest iPhone operating system iOS 17, which will be unveiled at Apple's upcoming "WWDC 2023" event.

IT media McLuminus reported on the 3rd (local time) that at least eight new features will be added to iOS 17 based on previous information. The first iOS 17 beta will be available to Apple Developer Program members after the WWDC 2023 keynote, while the public beta will likely be available to beta software program members in July. The official iOS 17 update will be released in September when the new iPhone is released.

 

Now, let' see what new features will come out.

1. Check iMessage Contact Key
  In December, Apple introduced a security function called "i-message contact key verification" in advance and announced that it would release it this year.
This feature is said to have been developed for users who are vulnerable to digital security, such as journalists and government officials, as it allows users to additionally check the target of iMessages on the iPhone.

2. Reorganization of the control center
  According to a source (@analyst941), who accurately predicted the installation of the iPhone 14 Pro on Dynamic Island in the past, iOS 17 will include a dramatically changed control center. The new control center will include more custom functions, and the brightness of the flashlight will change freely from the previous four-step setting.

3. Reorganization of Wallet App
  Bloomberg said the Wallet app would be revamped on iOS 17, and IT tipster @analyst941 also released a model image that said the design of the Wallet app would shift to tab and search-oriented.

 

4. Next Generation CarPlay
  At last year's WWDC event, Apple pre-released its next-generation CarPlay, which supports multiple displays and widgets and incorporates vehicle features such as instrument panels, thermostats and FM radios. At the time, Apple said it would work with carmakers such as Audi, Ford, Honda and Jaguar to announce its next-generation carplay at the end of 2023. Therefore, it is likely that the next generation of CarPlay will be released on iOS 17.

5. Journaling app
  At the end of last month, the Wall Street Journal reported that Apple was developing a "journalizing app" that records daily life. It collects information on the user's daily life by accessing phone and text information as well as what the user recorded himself. The timing of the app's release is still unclear, but it is likely to be introduced iOS 17.

6. Side-loading apps
  Last month, Bloomberg reported that Apple is checking software for app side loading on iOS 17 and will share it at the World Developers Conference (WWDC 2023) event in June. The European Union's Digital Market Act (DMA), which will take effect next year, forces platform companies to allow third-party app markets, and Apple is expected to change its policy in line with it. This allows developers to freely choose how to distribute apps, including USB and Internet, as well as Apple's App Store, and also provides an external payment system within the app. Even basic voice assistants can be replaced with external company services, not platform companies. However, it is expected that changes will be made only in EU countries in the beginning.

7. Track your mood
  Bloomberg reported on iOS 17 late last month that it would add features to track emotions and manage vision to its health app. Apple also plans to release the iPhone's health app on the iPad this year.

8. Unwanted tracking notification enhancements
  Recently, Apple and Google have collaborated and announced technology development to prevent Bluetooth location tracking devices such as air tags from being abused for unwanted location tracking. The two companies jointly submitted their proposed industry specifications for this purpose. The move will allow Apple to provide warning notifications to iOS users, with future iOS versions that allow location tracking devices to be compatible with unapproved tracking detection. Therefore, it is possible that this feature will be applied in iOS 17 and later versions.
